I owe SO much to my grandmother, Betty. When I was two, I went to live with my grandparents until basically I was 18 years old. She was young for a “grandma”, only 40 years old when I came to her, my dad being her oldest of six sons. She was more than my grandma, she was my teacher, my confidant, and my friend. She passed in September of 2012, but I feel her in my heart every single day!
Dragonfly
The other day I was standing out across the bay in Absecon, NJ admiring the cool, refreshing wind that was rolling in off the the Atlantic. It was more than a breeze, it was definitely windy, but I love the Air element and the connection it gives to my root of Metal. I stood there allowing it to blow through me, clearing away the “cobwebs” that had been gathering in my mind when I noticed something small come tumbling towards me. As it got closer I could see it was a flying bug of some kind – and well – as much as I love nature, I’m not big on bugs. I tried to get out of the way but it was too fast and latched onto my shoe. I almost panicked but took a closer look and noticed it was only a Dragonfly and the poor thing was hanging on for dear life.
It was a beautiful bright green with white marks on its tail and perfect wings. It looked disoriented and frazzled, so I slowly walked away out of the wind so he could find solid ground safely. He hopped off and wobbled with his legs and wings tilting back and forth behind some wood. I have always admired Dragonflies for their color and unique ways of movement, but someone recently told me the bite and it hurts a lot. This made me afraid now to get very close, hence my first reaction of fear I guess when I saw it on my shoe. But, I suppose we all can bite, now can’t we? Doesn’t mean we do. Then I realized how lucky I was to see one so clear and up close without tryingto touch it or accidentally harming it by holding it. It was a lovely experience, but I didn’t really think much of it after that.
The next day I was at the same location, though it was not as windy as the day before, the sun was shining and it was simply a beautiful day. I was talking with a friend when she looked above my head and said what is that? I looked around on the wall over my head was a green Dragonfly! I looked closely and it looked like the same exact one, white marks on his tail and all. I was shocked, never in two days in a row had I had such a close encounter with a Dragonfly. Instantly, as I whipped out my camera phone, it dawned on me this was a message. In my meditation in the winds of yesterday and my thoughts of the next, the Universe had sent me this little hielo-messenger for a reason. So I did some research on the meaning of a Dragonfly and here are the results. Perhaps this message will be of use to you too:
Dragonflies carry messages that deal with deeper thought – and they ask that we pay attention to our deeper thoughts and desires. That one can be entirely too rational about everything and really needs to tap into your deeper emotions instead, whatever they may be. Be on the lookout for any falsehoods, deceit, or illusions that are clouding a current situation or relationship.
I also found this by Avia, a wonderful analyst and teacher, “The dragonfly gives us a very powerful meditation tool. Close your eyes, and focus on a thought – let it rise to the surface of your mind’s ocean – see that thought float lightly up to the water’s surface. Now upon the top of a smooth, calm glass-like surface – visualize that thought moving across that water – sliding across – smooth and fast. This exercise is useful when we want to visualize positive outcomes in a situation. We see the thought of hope happily moving across an ocean of peace (peaceful mind) and skitting to a perfect outcome.” It is vital to recharge your psychic energy, which you can do by regularly meditating. Something I still struggle with to this day!
Overall, this little life of green and white reminded me that I needed to work more with fairies and other elements. That this is a time of when the magic and mystery of life is reawakening. And more than simple change, you may be facing a major transformation, so dig in and enjoy!
I hope this helps you as much as it has helped me – and just in case – I’m including the pictures I took of my new friend.
What’s it Like?
I have been traveling full time for a little over two years now in the USA on my quest to better my life and those around me. I have seen the vast variety of terrain this continent offers, yet have failed to see more than half of the whole, and I am still amazed every day by something new. I take mental pictures of the landscape that dart past my window while riding along in a semi-tentative state of mind. Allowing the depth of colors and wonders the sun (or moon) illuminates along the way to soak deep into the hollows of my retina, until it’s all a blur. It’s then I see beyond this dimension and step off the precipice of time into the space of here and now, caught between then, when and before, mingling only with the cells of creation. Seeing, no, feeling reality as it combusts into action around my dulled senses. Watching organic life respond in slow motion around me as if I were a lunar voyeur observing the birth of a new star in the milky way. Protected by distance. Deafened by awe. Wizened by definition, and humbled by the sheer magnitude of it all…this is where I connect. Spirit knows only this space, this energy of being, existing without limitation or hinderance of form, opinion, fear or conjecture. Reunited with the whole, yet secularly free, and complete…blanketed in euphoric glory that is indescribable by physical phrase or human language…this is what it is to me to be in the other world, to be a psychic, intuitive, shaman, witch, guide or whatever name befalls you at the time. This is what it is to be me, and who I am when I am truly free of this life I visit in the name of sanctity.
